A small village in the Sind valley, prettily situated on the right bank of the' river, about 10 miles west of the village of Sonamsrg, and 9 miles east of Gand-i-Sur-Singb, on the road to Dras. It contains a custom-house and establishment, and three houses inhabited by zamindars, There is a convenient and shady place £or encamping on the level bank of the river to the east of the village.

Between Gagangir and Sonamarg used to be the roughest part of the whole route between India and Turkistan; it is more fit for the passage of wild goats than laden horses. During the winter this part of the road is particularly bad. During 1887 this road has Leen much improved, and is now quite passable,
